Microsoft 365 Copilot Expands with New Features
Microsoft is making significant updates to its Microsoft 365 Copilot platform. This expansion, known as "Copilot Wave 2," includes new agents, image-generation tools, and an AI-powered company search feature. These enhancements are designed to improve decision-making processes and automate various tasks using the latest advancements from OpenAI.
New Agent Types
Researcher Agent
One of the exciting features introduced is the Researcher Agent. This agent utilizes OpenAI’s o3 Deep Research model to gather and analyze data. It collects information from various sources such as emails, meetings, files, chats, and the internet, generating outputs that include:
- Market analyses
- Strategy documents
- Customer reports
In addition to internal data, the Researcher Agent can also incorporate third-party information from platforms like Salesforce and ServiceNow through specialized connectors. This ensures that users have comprehensive data at their fingertips.
Analyst Agent
The Analyst Agent, powered by the OpenAI o3-mini model, focuses on performing data-driven analysis. It employs "chain-of-thought" reasoning to manage complex analytical tasks and supports the execution of Python code. This allows businesses to extract valuable insights from unstructured data, aiding in tasks like:

Both agents are available to license holders through Microsoft’s "Frontier" initiative, with plans for broader availability in the Microsoft 365 Copilot application soon.
