Gemini Icon Discovered on Wear OS, Suggesting New Call Features on the Horizon

Introduction to Google’s Gemini Expansion
In 2023, Google launched its AI chatbot, Gemini, on Android, prompting significant growth in its functionalities. Now, the company is extending Gemini to Android Auto, with tech experts uncovering assets in Android Auto APKs. Although Google previously confirmed the integration of Gemini into Wear OS, little information has surfaced regarding its upcoming features on this platform.
New Features on Wear OS
Gemini’s Presence in Phone App
This morning, while receiving a call, I noticed a new Gemini icon on the call screen of my Pixel Watch 2. This icon was located above the three-dots button, which typically provides access to Quick Replies.
Potential AI-Generated Contextual Replies
The appearance of the Gemini icon raises speculation about whether the Phone app might soon feature AI-generated contextual replies on Wear OS. However, the likelihood of this happening seems low, as Gemini may struggle to understand the call’s context without knowing the reason for the call.
Quick Replies Connection
Despite the uncertainty, the presence of the Gemini icon near the Quick Replies function suggests that it might be linked to this feature. Quick Replies currently allow users to send preset responses during calls, making communication much quicker and seamless.
Existing Gemini Features
As of now, Gemini offers two notable features for Pixel phone users:
- Call Notes: This feature allows users to take notes during phone calls, helping them remember important details discussed during the conversation.
- Scam Detection: This feature aims to identify and alert users about potential scam calls, adding an extra layer of security while using the phone.
Limited Features on Wear OS
It’s important to note that the Gemini features available on Wear OS are distinct from those on Pixel Phones. For instance, Call Screening already operates through Google Assistant on Wear OS, making it an unlikely candidate for integration with Gemini.
Anticipation of New Features
With the appearance of the Gemini icon during calls on both my Pixel Watch 2 and when connected to a OnePlus 12R and a Pixel 6, it appears that these potential features may not be exclusive to Pixel devices. This opens up the possibility of wider accessibility across various Android devices.
Speculations Surrounding Gemini’s Future
With the intriguing presence of the Gemini icon, various questions arise about its future functionalities on Wear OS:
- Will it enable AI-generated responses for incoming calls?
- Could it enhance existing features like Call Notes or Scam Detection in new ways?
- Might it introduce entirely new features that users currently enjoy on smartphones?
Community Thoughts
As we continue to unravel the potential capabilities of Gemini on Wear OS, the community’s input can be invaluable. What are your thoughts on this mysterious feature? If you have ideas or speculations, feel free to share them in the comments.
By exploring these emerging functionalities, we can better understand how Google aims to integrate AI into our daily communications, making devices smarter and enhancing user experiences on the go.
