Gemini Introduces Google Photos Integration for Samsung Devices

Google has begun integrating the Gemini app with Google Photos for selected Android users. This new feature allows individuals to locate images and videos from their Google Photos library simply by using voice commands on their Galaxy smartphones and tablets with the Gemini AI assistant.

With this new feature, Gemini can help you quickly find your memories by just speaking. Google demonstrated this capability during the Google I/O event in 2024, and it is now being rolled out to select Android users in the U.S. To take advantage of this service, users need to activate the Google Photos app within the Gemini app. This can be done by navigating to the profile menu at the top right corner of the Gemini app, selecting “Apps,” and enabling the Google Photos extension.

This feature allows you to retrieve backed-up images and videos from your Google Photos library. For instance, you can instruct Gemini by saying, “Find pictures of me and my wife from our recent trip to New York,” and the AI assistant will show you all relevant memories. Your requests can include various criteria such as:

  1. Date, Time
  2. Description
  3. Location
  4. People (including combinations of multiple individuals)

Additionally, you can ask Gemini for specific details stored in your Google Photos library. Here are some example requests:

  1. What was the theme of Alex’s last birthday party?
  2. What hotel did we stay in during our trip to New York?
  3. What were the top ten things we saw in Spain?
  4. What is my passport number?
  5. What did we eat during our visit to the Taj Mahal?

When Gemini retrieves your memories from Google Photos, you can tap on the images or albums to view them directly in the Google Photos app. This feature is currently available to a limited set of users invited by Google within the U.S. It is expected to become available to a broader audience and more devices in the upcoming weeks.
