With this new capability, Grok can remember specific details about users from past conversations, allowing it to provide tailored suggestions and advice in future chats. The rollout is set to apply to all Grok users, accessible via both web and mobile applications. Grok’s Memory Feature: A New Way to Engage
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter), the memory feature is designed to improve Grok’s performance in reminding users of information shared previously. Both free-tier and subscription-based users will have access to these enhancements across Grok’s website and on both Android and iOS mobile apps.
How It Works
This memory feature allows Grok to retain relevant information that could enhance user experience during interactions. For example, if a user requests a workout plan, Grok will consider previously mentioned preferences regarding exercise types, making the response much more personalized. This capability aims to ensure that conversations feel more natural and fluid.
User Control and Privacy
Users will have significant control over what Grok remembers. Whenever Grok uses information from past conversations, a new icon named “Referenced Chats” will appear next to the response output. By clicking on this icon, users can view the memories that influenced the current response. Moreover, if they wish to delete any memories, they can do so directly from this sidebar. Currently, this memory reviewing feature is only available via the web interface, but xAI plans to roll it out on the Android app soon.
If users do not wish to use the memory feature, they can disable it entirely through the Settings menu. They can navigate to the Data Controls section to manage memory settings or delete specific items. However, it is important to note that the memory feature is currently unavailable in the European Union (EU) and the UK due to existing privacy regulations in those regions.
