Introducing Agentic Automation: Bidirectional Integration of Microsoft Copilot Studio and UiPath

We are excited to announce a new bidirectional integration between UiPath and Microsoft Copilot Studio. This collaboration enables developers to seamlessly incorporate UiPath automations and agents into Copilot Studio, as well as integrate Copilot agents directly into UiPath Studio. This flexibility allows developers to effectively orchestrate workflows across both platforms.
Enhancing Copilot Functions with UiPath Agent Builder
Last year, we demonstrated how UiPath Autopilot could easily connect with Microsoft Teams and Copilot conversations (read more here). The current bidirectional integration between Microsoft Copilot Studio and UiPath Studio is set to unlock new use cases and provide solutions to unique business challenges faced by our clients.
Graham Sheldon, Chief Product Officer at UiPath, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “We believe in the power of people, agents, and robots working together to tackle complex business issues. This partnership with Microsoft brings to life the potential of agentic automation and orchestration for our customers, delivering unmatched capabilities and flexibility.”
UiPath has improved its Power Platform connector, which now allows the integration of UiPath agents and automations directly into Copilot Studio. Developers will find it easier to create actions, topics, or agent flows that utilize UiPath technologies.
After completing a task, the UiPath agent communicates back to Copilot Studio via an API trigger to continue processing. This integration allows Copilot Studio agents to function across Microsoft 365 and work alongside applications such as Outlook and SharePoint.

Real-world business processes often involve a mix of IT systems, offline documents, and user actions. This integration, developed through close collaboration between engineering teams, enables smooth interaction between UiPath and Microsoft agents, promoting effective orchestration across both platforms.
Customers using both platforms can now automate and coordinate tasks that involve several applications and various document types, including semi-structured and unstructured documents. The bidirectional connectivity opens up numerous scenarios:
- Invoke UiPath Agents from Copilot Studio: Carefully designed input parameters allow Copilot Studio agents to transfer processes to UiPath agents along with any necessary data to complete the task.
- Invoke Microsoft Agents from UiPath Studio: UiPath Studio activities can leverage Copilot Studio agents as tools, allowing UiPath agents to pass responsibilities back to Copilot Studio agents.
- Automate Long-Running Processes: UiPath agents can return a process to the Copilot Studio agent for further handling, enabling effective management of lengthy tasks.
Real-World Use Cases
The UiPath Connector allows businesses to access the capabilities of UiPath agents on the Microsoft platform as well as within third-party systems, documents, and desktop applications. For instance, a Copilot Studio agent can monitor a shared Outlook inbox for customer emails, manage email generation, and carry out intelligent case assignments based on those emails.
In specialized scenarios like claims processing, the Copilot agent can pass tasks to a UiPath claims agent that uses Intelligent Document Processing to extract relevant information, validate it, and input it into the claims administration system for follow-up by a claims adjuster.
If any issues arise, UiPath agents can identify the appropriate user using Microsoft Graph to escalate the matter through UiPath Action Center. Once processing is complete, confirmation can be sent back to the Copilot Studio agent to manage subsequent steps.
Getting Started
Sangya Singh, Microsoft VP of Power Platform Intelligent Automations, noted that this integration will be a valuable asset for users tackling complex workflows and streamlining business processes. “As we broaden what agents can accomplish within enterprises,” she stated, “we’re making it easier for customers to achieve their automation goals.”
Many clients are enthusiastic about this partnership, recognizing its potential for enhancing business process automation throughout organizations:
“Integration across technology boundaries is essential for driving real business impact. This bidirectional integration leverages the strengths of Microsoft Copilot and UiPath agents to comprehensively automate complex workflows that involve documents, emails, PowerApps, and enterprise systems.”
– Ramnath Natarajan, Director of Global Intelligent Automation & Integration, Johnson Controls
We are eager to see the innovative ways that customers of Microsoft and UiPath utilize these new capabilities to advance their businesses.
