Microsoft Delivers Key Copilot+ AI Features to AMD and Intel PCs

Microsoft Expands Copilot+ Features to More PCs

Microsoft has broadened the availability of its Copilot+ features, now encompassing all compatible PCs beyond just those equipped with Snapdragon processors. This expansion reflects a significant step in making AI tools accessible to a wider audience of Windows users.

Fragmentation in the Windows Ecosystem

The landscape for Windows users has become increasingly fragmented over the years. Users are divided between Windows 10 and Windows 11, and within Windows 11, many different versions exist. The recent introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) tools has added further complexity, particularly as Microsoft had primarily focused its Copilot+ developments on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X platform, leaving users with AMD Ryzen AI 300 and Intel Core Ultra 200 series processors in the lurch.

Inclusion of AMD and Intel Processors

In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced that PCs powered by AMD Ryzen AI 300 series and Intel Core Ultra 200V processors will now receive access to a variety of Copilot+ features, including:

  • Live Captions
  • Cocreator
  • Restyle Image
  • Image Creator

This change is crucial for users of AMD and Intel, who previously felt sidelined as Microsoft showcased its AI advancements primarily on Snapdragon machines.

Specific Features and Limitations

Although this is a positive move, it is essential to note that not all AI features are available to all users. The blog post specified that some features may remain exclusive to Snapdragon-based PCs. For instance, certain image resizing capabilities are currently only available in the Photos app on devices with Snapdragon chips.

Another feature, Voice Access, designed to allow easier verbal communication with your PC, is currently restricted to Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon processors. Microsoft has indicated that AMD and Intel users can expect to receive Voice Access capabilities later in the year.

Rollout Timeline and Update Information

Microsoft has stated that some Copilot+ features for Windows will be rolled out via the March 2025 non-security preview update, which requires the earlier November 2024 non-security preview update. The rollout of these features will occur gradually through the Windows Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) process, ensuring that the updates reach users over the coming months.

If you own a Copilot+ PC equipped with qualifying AMD or Intel chips, it’s easy to stay updated. Simply navigate to Settings > Windows Update and enable the option for “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.” This way, you can either check regularly for updates or allow them to be automatically installed on your system.

Summary of Key Updates

  • Expanded Access: Microsoft Copilot+ features now available for AMD and Intel PCs.
  • Feature List: Includes Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator.
  • Limitations: Certain features remain exclusive to Snapdragon devices.
  • Update Process: Users can enable immediate update notifications in Windows settings.

With these updates, Microsoft is making strides in enhancing the functionality and accessibility of AI tools for its users, regardless of their hardware choices.
