Microsoft's Redesigned Copilot App For Windows Becomes Fully Native

Original story from March 5, 2025: Microsoft has refreshed Copilot, which is now being rolled out to Windows 11 Insiders. This revamped version aims to improve the user experience significantly, presenting Copilot as a native app that integrates smoothly with the operating system.

As reported by Windows Latest, early users have noted that this new version of Copilot performs better than the ChatGPT desktop application, mainly because it operates with minimal delay and consumes significantly less memory.

What Is the New Copilot App?

Microsoft has completely redesigned the Copilot app, leveraging Windows technologies such as XAML and WinUI. The app is now integrated directly into Windows 11, enhancing its accessibility compared to its earlier versions, which were either hidden in a sidebar or only available as a web app.

This native integration means that Copilot features its own controls, a taskbar icon, and a picture-in-picture mode, allowing users to generate answers more quickly while using only 50 to 100 MB of RAM on average.

The updated sidebar interface allows users to initiate conversations with the AI chatbot effortlessly, receiving prompt responses from the app.

Improved Integration with Windows 11

With its integration into Windows 11, Copilot can now better comprehend your system, leading to more relevant answers and solutions. Depending on the specific components and applications installed, Copilot can offer tailored responses and tips for users.

While Copilot currently cannot manage Windows 11 settings directly, this feature might be included in later updates. The current desktop app has received positive feedback, demonstrating a marked improvement over its predecessors.
