Significant Enhancements Coming to Copilot for Microsoft’s 50th Anniversary
Microsoft: 50 Years of Innovation and Upcoming Features
This Friday, April 4th, Microsoft will mark its impressive 50-year anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, the company has scheduled an event during which it’s anticipated that a host of new products and features will be unveiled. Although there are expectations for updates to Microsoft’s Copilot feature, it remains uncertain whether any new Phi models will also be presented.
Exciting Features in Development
Microsoft has already revealed a number of intriguing features either through early development previews or within the Labs environment, which is accessible to select users. Many of these enhancements are designed to work seamlessly on both mobile and web platforms, while some could be specific to Surface laptops.
Copilot for Android
One of the notable updates is the expected launch of Copilot for Android. This feature will serve as an assistant application, enabling users to interact with Copilot across various screens, similar to existing assistant apps on Android devices.
New Discover Screen
On both mobile and web applications, Microsoft is set to introduce a new Discover screen. This update will showcase a broader range of interactive cards and incorporate personalized content options. Some users currently have access to early versions, allowing them to choose specific topics for their daily briefings.

Vision
A feature named Vision is being tested by some professional users. This functionality will allow Copilot to gather and comprehend content from various websites when utilized within the Edge browser. Wider rollouts of this feature are expected in the future.
Adjustable Reasoning
In a move similar to ChatGPT, users might soon have an option to modify the reasoning effort of Copilot, allowing for personalized responses. Another feature called Pages enables users to create content in a manner akin to the Canvas feature in ChatGPT, with its availability now extending to mobile platforms.
Additional Features on the Horizon
Memory and Deep Research
Microsoft is also developing features like Memory and Deep Research, which may cater specifically to professional customers. Meanwhile, the Characters feature aims to integrate animated avatars into Copilot, making user interactions more visually engaging.
Audio Functionality
An additional upcoming feature, named Podcasts, could function like the Audio Overviews feature, allowing users to create and share audio files that will be featured on the Discover page.
User Interface Updates
Microsoft is also working on a side navigation bar for Copilot to enhance the user interface, making it more intuitive and aligned with industry design standards.
Local Agents
Lastly, a powerful concept referred to as Actions or Local Agents is in the works. This feature is expected to be exclusive to Surface devices, enabling Copilot to interact with local tools. It remains to be seen if this will be associated with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which could represent a significant strategic advancement for Microsoft.
